Recognizing inclusive workplaces

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which celebrates people with disabilities in the workplace and raises awareness of the importance of having a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Each year, Community Services nominates a few employers that have gone above and beyond to support the people we serve in their jobs.

Our agency nominated Market In the Square as an exemplary employer for providing a rewarding work experience for Marcus. With the guidance of Collin Rambler, Marcus has been successful in building a transferable work skill set.

Community Services also nominated Target, located on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga. Target has ensured a supportive work environment for Andrea. The staff at Target have been essential to her success as a cashier and customer service representative.

At the start of the pandemic, Target worked with her support staff and job coach to assist Andrea in learning new safety protocols and cleaning guidelines. They also helped her overcome her anxiety and to perform to the best of her ability.

We are so thankful to the staff at Market In the Square and Target for their commitment to those we support and to providing an inclusive workplace!
